SV3BSF modified it for outdoor use.
DWL-900AP+ brief testing follows:
1. Access Point Mode
* configuration (indoor):
DWL-900+ AP with Firmware 2.5 connected with cross-over cable to a Fixed Host
(FH) PC to the ethernet port of DWL-900+ AP. Two (2) laptops were configured as
clients to AP, both using Orinoco Silver PCcard.
* Throughput measurements:
laptop1 -> FH PC 607 KB/sec (4,86 Mbits/sec)
FH PC -> laptop1 625 KB/sec (5,00 Mbits/sec)
laptop1 -> laptop2 300 KB/sec (2,4 Mbits/sec)
laptop2 -> laptop1 300 KB/sec (2,4 Mbits/sec)
* DWL-900+ pros & cons:
+ DHCP server
+ Web Based Configuration
+ Configurable antenna diversity support
+ List of associated clients (support for logging in a remote PC)
+ Configurable Antenna transmit power (19, 16, 13, 10 dBm)
+ Enable/Disable SSID Broadcasting (for security enhancement)
+ 802.x, Radius Server support
- Lack of SNMP Agent
- No indication of SNR/Quality of associated clients
2. AP client mode
* configuration A (indoor):
DWL-900+ AP with Firmware 2.5 in AP client mode connected with cross-over
cable to a PC. An Avaya AP-I Access Point, and a laptop configured as
a client connected to Avaya AP, using an Orinoco Silver PCcard.
* Throughput measurements:
PC -> laptop1 308 KB/sec (2,46 Mbits/sec)
laptop1 -> PC 128 KB/sec (1,02 Mbits/sec)!!!!!
* configuration B (outdoor):
DWL-900+ AP with Firmware 2.5 in AP client mode connected with cross-over
cable to a laptop. A D-Link 1000 Access Point, and a remote station using DLink DWL-810
* Throughput measurements:
PC (with 810) -> laptop 280 KB/sec (2,24 Mbits/sec)
laptop -> PC (with 810) 285 KB/sec (2,28 Mbits/sec)
* Comments:
+ Interoperable (even partially) with diverse Access Points
- Bad behaviour (duplicate transmissions) on configuration A
- DWL-900+ stalled several times on configuration B (power reset was necessary)
- No SNR/quality indication
In all cases, the DWL-900+ was compatible with the IEEE802.11b 11Mbits/sec rate, when
set to automatically select among 1, 2, 5.5, 11 and 22 Mbits/sec rates.
3. Repeater Mode
DWL-900+ AP seems NOT to co-operate in Repeater mode with APs from other vendors
(at least with Avaya AP-I).
In all measurements the ttcp (for Linux) and wsttcp (for Windows) were used, and in all cases, the presented values are an average result of 5 rounds.
